Cookbooks Around The World Book Club – Wild Game

This month, on Wednesday, October 2, 2013,  during the “Cookbooks Around The World Book Club” we discussed wild game. This discussion was held from noon to 1pm in the Central Library Book Club Room, located in the Locust Street Atrium of the Saint Louis Public Library.

We started our discussion going over just what exactly is game? Reviewing that they are any animal hunted for food, or not normally domesticated. We learned that in some countries game is classified as either “small game” or “large game”. Ducks, geese, pheasants, and rabbits may be considered small game. Bear, deer, or elk may need special licenses to be caught.  It was interesting to review exactly how much meat do we need to eat. We learned that different cuts of meat provide different amounts of meat. How to smoke wild boar meat was also discussed.

Come learn more about foods eaten around the world. Next month, on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, from noon to 1pm, in the Central Library Book Club Room, located in the Locust Street Atrium, of the Saint Louis Public Library, come listen and learn about birds and how they are eaten in various parts of the world. Bring your favourite recipe and be ready to take home new ones.
